Does anyone know how different the degree course is from the diploma course. Is it just the dissertation at the end or is there more that is hidden. Any help and I would be very grateful. Anto x

The modules on the diploma are marked at level 2 - i.e. the same level as this year, whereas the degree is marked at level 3, however if you are already getting 60+ for your assignments and exams I shouldn't think that you would suddenly struggle to gain a pass.
I was under the impression that the dissertation replaced a module that diploma students undertook but having looked at comparisons between the two, it now seems that this is not the case - I think that because the dissertation accounts for more credits than a normal essay, the diploma students would do two essays rather than the dissertation.

Hi all Am just looking at the Module Handbook, page 16: Y3 Dip HE programme: Utilisng Evidence Based Care is Lvl 2, 20 credits Management Skills in Adult Nursing is Lvl 2, 40 credits IP3 (ugh), Lvl 3, 20 credits Practice, Lvl 2, 40 credits
The Degree has 2 paths: BSc Programme, and BSc (Hons). BSc Prog is the same as Dip HE except all modules apart from Mgt Skills are at Lvl 3.
BSc (Hons) is all modules at Lvl 3: 2 modules are the same as above but Lvl 3 - IP3 and Practice, the 2 different modules are Critical Evaluation in Adult Nursing (20 credits), and the Dissertation Module (40 credits).
I'm never quite sure what people mean when they say "the Degree" because it could mean 2 things ...... Also, what I've heard is that the Management Skills module is 40 credits at Lvl 2, the same as NAWCN this year (visions of summer passing me by!), and seems to need as much effort (so I've heard) as the Dissertation. I would have thought that it may be worth going for the degree now, rather than trying to top up at a later date as studying while working must be very hard.
This info could be totally wrong as the handbook was given to us at the beginning of the course, but it's what I'm going by.
I also remember Craig saying there is a criticism about the BSc Hons, that writing a dissertation means you are not tested in management skills, which does seem rather silly!
Hope this helps ......

Again, I can't remember where I read it (perhaps I do a lot of daydreaming in the library and leave thinking that what I imagined was real...?) but one of the assessments that the dissertation replaces is related to ward management.

Hi Craig - I don't think you were daydreaming - the Dissertation replaces the Management Module that Dip HE and BSc include. That's why BSc Hons students don't get the Management assessment ...... clear as mud, sorry - will bring the table with me on Monday.
