Hi there Hope you've all had a good week on placement?
I've got a question about referencing......if I want to reference from a chapter of a book, and the chapter is written by Sellman but the names on the front of the book says... edited by Katherine C Pollard, Judith Thomas and Margret Miers....sooo do I reference in my essay as Sellman cited in.... or do I reference as pollard et al??
help! xxx

Hi Gemma, I will give you an example to follow re referecing from chapter in book. Miers, M (2010a) Professional Boundaries and Interprofessional working. In: K. Pollard, J. Thomas and M. Miers (eds) Understanding Interprofessional Working in Health and Social Care. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan. 2010 pp 105-120 The title of the chapter e.g. Understanding Interprofessional Working in Health and Social Care should be written in italics (could not get this to happen when I copied this over). Hope this helps Teresa xx

Hi Gemma, To find the assingment checker go to Ican, select assignments from the left scroll down and you will find it there. Hope you are ok. I put my assingnment through which was very reassuring. It takes about 30 minutes. To understand the result click on help top right corner. Anything below a 15% match is fine. Good luck. Teresa xx

Hi Gemma, My week has been very interesting. Also because I worked in Paulton for sooooooooo long I am meeting a lot of people I have known for years (including patients) which is nice. There is so much to learn on this placement, I think it will go by in a flash. I am going to start the reading for ICAN today which I cannot say I am looking forward to. I plan to do as much of the decision making assignment as possible over the Easter break. Not much fun but I hope it will allow me to have an easier time on the placement. I just do not fancy coming home each day and working on an assignment plus everything else. Roll on the summer holidays. Teresa xx

Well done Teresa!
I still haven't started my placement but am on antibiotics so hope to get there before the Easter break.
I submitted my IP 3 times! And am leaving the final version for them to tear to bits and say I haven't covered XY and Z, which isn't possible in the word count.
I am going to give them a few of my Thoughts in the evaluation. I may email Ian F separately with them as well. If their intention was to cause stress, then they have succeeded.

You don't have to cover everything though - that's not the point of exercise. I've had to take out a massive chunk about the differences in facilitating IP between health and social care which I thought very relevant, but ultimately it didn't fit within the word count. I've also not mentioned the online portion of the conference, any of the seminar material and no policies. It's just not possible to fit it all in - but you're not expected to!

Incidentally, the safe assignment checker is quite funny - apparently I've copied something from a food technology website. I can safely say that although there's a lot to discuss in relation to IP, I didn't talk about food.

Am thinking we have all been on our own individual journeys with this one. I hope you are right, Craig, and that we all pass no matter how different our essays seem to be ......
Was just going through the ICAN module reading. Don't forget to look in the module readers as there are lots of useful references in there. Very few have been put online.

I know some people thrive under pressure .......
All I can say is, try to look through your Part 1, and apply what you said you learnt to some practice situations and hopefully what you learnt will help you to make what you do in future better or at least lead you in that direction.
eg if your Group did not function well, why was that, and could that help your performance in a team in the future. I found my group did not communicate well after the conference so I found stuff that said everyone (i.e. all the experts) needs to have their contribution recognised, otherwise things could go wrong.
Blaa blaa ..... sorry can't help more.

Fascinating stuff i got growing tomatoes in a hydroponic garden, yeah right i can't even grow a weed thats how much i do gardening let alone copying it for an IP essay!
Well mine was 6% so i'm ok........that had me worried cos you never know if you've done something unintentionally. I've never checked like this before.

So if I referenced a few chapters from the same book with different authors I'd put Miers (2010a)....and all the rest and then for the next chapter I'd put Sellman (2010b)....and all the rest but with the different chapter title. As a separate reference in the back. using a, b, c, etc for each chapter author? is that right?? sorry to be asking but i cant seem to find the answer on the online help x

Hi, Gemma - I see why you were confused about the "b". I think Teresa must have copied that reference from her reference list, and used Miers' seminar as another reference in her list which would have been Miers (2010b). Don't worry about this though.
Forget the a and b - just follow the format for the Miers reference, e.g. Sellman, D. (2010). Values and Ethics in Interprofessional Working. In: Pollard, Thomas and Miers etc. as for the Miers reference. Don't forget to put the right page numbers for that chapter at the end as well.
I hope that makes sense. I'll text you so you can phone me if you still have problems.
